Rol San Restaurant, a cherished institution in Toronto's Chinatown, has been serving authentic Cantonese dim sum since 1994. Founded by Paul and Paulie Li, immigrants from Guangzhou, the restaurant initially surprised many by offering dim sum beyond traditional brunch hours, a concept that quickly gained popularity. Their daughter, Joyce Li, grew up in the restaurant, assisting with daily operations and developing a deep connection to the establishment. Despite challenges, including the closure of their original location in 2023 due to redevelopment, Rol San reopened across the street at 388 Spadina Avenue, continuing its legacy of serving beloved dishes like shrimp dumplings, crispy beef in ginger honey sauce, and deep-fried squid tentacles.
